प्रेम न बाड़ी ऊपजै, प्रेम न हाट बिकाय।
राजा परजा जेहि रूचै, सीस देइ ले जाय।।
'Love is not grown in field, not sold in market; king or commoner whosoever wishes can acquire it with humility.' -Sant Kabir
When the rulers were engrossed within themselves lavishly living in an Utopian world of being God, commoners were leftover to the mercy of Jamindar, Raiyatdar, Sipahi etc. whosoever appointed by king.
Their well-being were mostly judged by who could provide how much wealth to king.
Religion or to call 'spirituality' once again revived the society through 'Bhakti Movement,' started in the second half of the 13th century. Guru Ramanand initiated worship of lord Ram again with his devotional singing & poetry. He had many disciples who followed his suite to worship different heroes of ancient Indian literature like Krishna, Ram, Shiv etc. in many form propagating oneness of everyone with supreme.
The Bhakti Movement was chiefly divided in two parts one was Sagun(Idols or Identity) worship and the other one was Nirgun(Formless) worship. In between second half of 14th & 15th century this Bhakti Movement presented historical philosophers or poet's of medieval India. They were more than that 'Spiritual Gurus for masses.' Sant Kabir, Goswami Tulsidas, Sant Raidas, Mirabai Ji etc. all following the suite of spiritualism prevalent in Varanasi. Most of them lived here in this mystic city of lord Shiva.
