Gangasagar is the site where the Ganga meets the Bay of Bengal located at a distance of about 65 kms from Diamond Harbour. An impressive fair is held here every year on the last day of Pausa (December – January) month of Vikrami calender. About 2 to 3 lakh people participate in this gathering. It is believed that one pilgrimage to Gangasagar in the life is equal to hundred of other pilgrimages. The proximity of Sundarbans breeds many dangers to the fair every year. Strom and tides disturb the fair almost every year. There are images of Gangadevi, Kapilmuni and Bhagirathi at Gangasagar. There is a temple also dedicated to saint Kapilmuni here.
