Impact of 1991's liberalizations on economy-A Puppet Show (3)

Social changes are inevitable with the policy shift from government on a higher level. Liberalization bought that change to Indian economy as well where each individual felt the burnt of market driven economy since the liberalization process started.

When government initiated the process of disinvestment of different sectors and companies; not a single new public undertaking entity was started. No investment of higher caliber except in basic infrastructure was done on government's behalf; this surely surged off the cumbersome burden of the government but the the prices of the commodities kept increasing with the market expansion and consolidation.

Now in the years of 2000 government initiated the process of motivating private investors to invest in education sector which increased the cost of education in India to such a level that now we feel the pressure to have a quality education on reasonable rate.

This process again not yielded much results as government anticipated; not a single world class private education institute was set up in our country and the institutions which were the strength of the Indian education system lost it's shine. As a result competition to get selected to earlier reputed institutes increased and people felt cheated as not to have a viable education through any means on a mass scale.

On the other hand these institutes which burgeoned through policy paralysis education institutes produced inefficient students for market and once noble cause was written off by the market itself. Market drove out the masses of students on their inefficiency for market and the unemployment rate increased to such an extent where now it has reached in a stage of in-revertible situation.

As experts believe the proposed document could have been the strengthening of older institutes to world class and opening up new ones for students. Instead of competing for the same courses by the government and private institutes government could have brought new fields for the private players to invest.

Government could have enlarged the specialization process with different courses but corruption of higher level gave nod to courses which were already run by government universities and colleges to private institutes.
